[Notice] Call for participants for the 63rd Izushi Shrine Shikinen Sengu "Okihiki"

The Okihiki ceremony, which is part of the Shikinen Sengu (period rebuilding of the shrine) ceremony held at Izushi Shrine in Isobe-cho, Shima City, will be held on Sunday, April 12, 2026.
This is a folk event that has been passed down for generations in Isobe-cho, Shima City, in which local people work together to pull timber for the government.
We are currently looking for people to participate in this event.
This is a rare opportunity to experience Shima's traditional culture, so please come and join us.

What is Okibiki?

"Okihiki" is a traditional event that originated from the Shinto ritual of pulling timber for the shrine's Shikinen Sengu (period reconstruction of the shrine), in which local people join forces to pull the timber forward.
It has been cherished and passed down as a folk event that conveys Shima's culture and history to the present day.
