[Event] The 63rd Izushi Shrine Shikinen Sengu "Okihiki" Ceremony will be held

The Okihiki ceremony, which is part of the Shikinen Sengu (period rebuilding of the shrine) ceremony held at Izushi Shrine in Isobe-cho, Shima City, will be held on Sunday, April 12, 2026.
This is a folk event that has been passed down for generations in Isobe-cho, Shima City, in which local people work together to pull timber for the government.
The impressive sight of them working together to move forward is one of the highlights that allows you to get a real feel for the history and culture of the region.

What is "Okibiki"?

"Okihiki" is a traditional event that originated from the Shinto ritual of pulling timber for the shrine's Shikinen Sengu (period reconstruction of the shrine), in which local people join forces to pull the timber forward.
It has been cherished and passed down as a folk event that conveys Shima's culture and history to the present day.

Please note that due to road closures around Isobe Station, access to the parking lot on the west side of Shima Isobe Station Plaza will be restricted.
