Legend has it that Amaterasu hid there because she lamented the violent actions of Susano. It is
located on the border of Shima City and Ise City. The small water source has been selected as one of
the "100 best waters in Japan". (You can take the water home with you, but be sure to boil it before
drinking.)
The Oshima cherry tree, designated as a natural monument by the city, is also famous.
During the cherry blossom season, there is an "Association for Enjoying Cherry Blossoms, Rice Cakes
and Great Water" and the "Haya Mochitsuki" Preservation Society, a traditional performing art of the
Erihara area, offers rice cakes to visitors.
